Lautnote

Lautnote / Guides / SRT subtitles

Create SRT subtitles from a video.

From MP4 to a corrected SRT or VTT file – on your PC, in a few steps.

Subtitles make videos accessible, searchable and watchable without sound. Typing them by hand takes long; with automatic transcription you get a first version in minutes and only need to correct it.

SRT or VTT?

Both are text files with numbered blocks of start time, end time and text. SRT is the most widely supported format – video editors like Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve and video platforms read it. VTT (WebVTT) is the format for HTML5 video on websites. Lautnote exports both.

Step by step

  1. Drop the video in. MP4, MOV, MKV or WEBM – Lautnote takes the audio track. There is no need to convert first.
  2. Language and model. Let Lautnote detect the language or set it; use “Accurate” for subtitles.
  3. Correct. Click a line to hear it and fix names and terms. Add recurring names as your own words before the next video.
  4. Export as SRT or VTT. Lautnote writes the timestamps from the transcript and splits the text into readable blocks: at most two lines of 42 characters and at most seven seconds per subtitle.
  5. Import. In your video editor, import the SRT as a subtitle track; on video platforms, upload it as a subtitle file.

Limits in version 1

  • No subtitle styling and no burning into the video – do that in your video editor.
  • No translation – subtitles are in the language that is spoken.

Both are on the list for later versions.

Try it for 15 days.

Every feature, no account, no card. After that, your transcripts stay yours – open, search and export keep working.
